    CAN was set up in 1951 with one of our primary purposes being to work with Village Halls. Over the years we have accumulated a large collection of documents and photographs linked to the history of these buildings, and we have worked with a vibrant network of former and current volunteers who have dedicated their time and enthusiasm to running these vital buildings. — Read more.

  • Pop up hubs show benefits of slow cookers

    At the end of last year Community Action Northumberland (CAN) started to roll out an exciting new initiative which builds on the work of its hugely successful Warm Hubs project. Funded by Northern Gas Networks, its new pop-up Warm Hubs are a series of events which aim to bring similar benefits to areas not currently covered by the main project.   • Huge funding boost for village halls led by CAN

    The National Lottery Community Fund, previously known as the Big Lottery Fund, has awarded over £420,000 to the Northumberland Village Halls project, led by CAN. This is one of the first projects to be awarded money raised by National Lottery players, under the new name of the largest funder of community activity in the UK. — Read more.
