Empowering Organisations

Supporting and developing local communities and their key groups and organisations

CAN’s Community Development staff have many years of experience supporting rural community organisations and have developed expertise in a wide range of areas including, governance, policies and procedures, project development, fundraising, managing community buildings, operating local councils, and community led planning.

We can offer services at a number of levels including:

  • Information and resource packs
  • Signposting
  • Training (through published programmes or tailored to the needs of your particular organisation or community)
  • Consultancy services to support you through a current project or area of development.

We can also provide a range of back office support and equipment hire.

Whether you are a small community group looking to develop, or a statutory or commercial organisation wishing to engage with a rural community we have something to offer. (follow the links for more details).

Wherever possible we seek grant funding and sponsorship to keep the costs of our services to community organisations to a minimum.

CAN works alongside a number of other organisations within Northumberland to offer support community groups and voluntary organisations.

Northumberland Community Voluntary Action (formally known as Wansbeck CVS) is currently funded by Northumberland County Council to offer a range of introductory level services, many of which are free to community groups.  Areas covered include organisational development for new and emerging community groups, fundraising, and volunteer management as well as back office support.
