Mapping exercise underway to identify Northumberland Warm Spaces

Northumberland Communities Together and VCSE partners are working together to map local spaces and places in Northumberland that can provide a warm welcome to those who need it this coming challenging winter.

Many residents face increasing pressures as a result of the cost of living crisis; escalating food and utility bills, difficult choices, and anxiety about the winter months. When money does not go as far, worlds get smaller, and people can become isolated and alone, as well as cold and hungry.

They are looking to identify spaces and places that people can visit for warmth, information, and support, and stay safe, warm, and connected over the winter.

This will result in a map and list of warm spaces and places – welcoming, local places where residents can pop in and enjoy a warm welcome, a warm drink, and be connected to other support when needed.

This can be community centres, village halls, our CAN rural Warm Hubs, libraries, or even cafes and museums. The map will be on Frontline, the NCC website, and available for community partners and health colleagues to share and use.

Sign up your organisation

Those interested will be able to sign up to the Warm Spaces and Places Promise to ensure residents can expect:

• A warm, friendly welcome at your local Warm Space or place.
• Everyone is treated equally with dignity and respect
• Your Warm Space or place will be a safe space
• Your Warm Space or place is confidential

Groups and organisations that sign up will have access to light touch training and support, including small grants for utilities, food, and other elements.
