10 years of Northumberland Warm Hubs celebrated
28th Jun 2024
On Wednesday 26th June we celebrated 10 years of Warm Hubs at Seahouses Development Trust, bringing together volunteers and Hub users at our annual get-together.
We enjoyed fish and chips whilst entertained by The Whistle Testers, then shared a delicious cake made by volunteer May Wilson from Breamish Hall, Powburn.
We rounded off the day with a spot of line dancing led by Mary who runs the Powburn Linedancers.
We created Warm Hubs in 2014 as places within the local community, run by volunteers, where people can be assured of finding a safe, warm and friendly environment in which to enjoy refreshments, social activity, advice and company. This was in response to high levels of social isolation combined with fuel poverty faced by many rural residents.
Each venue joining the scheme undergoes an assessment by us to ensure their service meets a minimum standard so they can receive training, funding, advice and networking with other Hubs.
The 55 Warm Hubs in Northumberland received 435,000 visits in 2023.
Thanks to all the volunteers who made the day possible, to Northern Gas Networks for their ongoing support, and to everyone involved with Warm Hubs, giving a warm welcome.
