Phase 1 renovation complete at Slaley Commemoration Hall

Despite the pandemic, it has been fantastic to see village halls getting on with planned renovations and improvements – particularly those benefitting from funding under CAN’s partnership project with the National Lottery Community Fund. One such hall is Slaley Commemoration Hall.
Debra Taylor, trustee at Slaley writes:
“We have finished Phase 1 of our renovations at Slaley Commemoration Hall!
- The new storage area is fantastic! No more lifting tables and chairs up and down stairs. We have had feedback from the Leek Club, who managed to hold a cut-down version of their annual show, and they are so pleased at how much easier things are now.
- The new central heating boiler is installed and running. Its environmental credentials are very high, and it takes up a lot less space and is more efficient than the old one. Saving us money and reducing emissions.
- ·Our new toilets are where the old supper room was located. These were redesigned when COVID restriction were put in place, so we now have 5 unisex loos, each with its own washbasin etc. The corridor where they are located is now much wider than originally planned to allow for easier movement of people. There is of course one loo with disabled facilities and baby changing facilities in it.
- The areas where the original ladies and gents’ toilets were located are now being used too. The gents’ loos area has been cleared out and painted and is now an outside storage area. The ladies toilets has also had all the old fitting removed and painted and new floor installed. This is now a small room which can be used either for storage or as a small meeting room until we complete phase 2 of our project - a new extension on the east side of the hall.
