Empowering Organisations

Supporting and developing local communities

CAN’s Community Development staff have many years of experience supporting rural community organisations. They have developed expertise in a wide range of areas including, governance, policies and procedures, project development, fundraising, managing community buildings, operating local councils, and community-led planning.

We can offer services including:

  • Information and resource packs
  • Signposting
  • Training
  • Consultancy services to support you through a project or area of development
  • Back office support and equipment hire

Whether you are a small community group looking to develop, or a statutory or commercial organisation wishing to engage with a rural community we have something to offer. Wherever possible we seek grant funding and sponsorship to keep the costs of our services to community organisations to a minimum.

Volunteering Development

CAN provides practical assistance to small volunteer-involving organisations.

  • We help by offering ‘health checks’ to ensure that an organisation has the appropriate policies, procedures, training and structures in place to be in the best position to recruit, coordinate, support and retain volunteers.
  • We help strengthen governance and the role of trustees to make the organisations more resilient to change.
  • We promote different avenues for volunteer involvement and help link potential volunteers with local opportunities, including people who are looking to use volunteering as a stepping stone to employment.

CAN also offers volunteering opportunities in a wide range of its own project activities.
