CAN Spring Conference identifies rural needs in Northumberland
22nd Jul 2016
CAN used its 2016 Spring Conference to delve into the existence of rural deprivation in Northumberland – to identify what it looks like and potential solutions.
The conference was very well attended by a wide range of individuals and organisations who were treated to thought provoking presentations by Professor Mark Shucksmith of Newcastle University and Janice Rose of Northumberland County Council. Liz Chadwick and Ian McRae then explained their thoughts on rural deprivation and need in Northumberland from a more local perspective before everyone broke up into discussion groups to have their own say on the topic. Copies of the presentations from the day can be viewed on CAN’s website.
The product of the conference will be a short report, based on discussions on the day and existing information, on just what rural deprivation in Northumberland looks like. The ‘Friends of Rural Northumberland’ will then be asked to add to this report with their own detailed knowledge in order to build up a comprehensive picture for Northumberland to influence policy and be utilised by all organisations in bidding for resources.
If you have access to information and evidence of rural needs in Northumberland which you think CAN may not have seen we are very keen to hear from you.
