INFORMATION EVENTS ON THE BIG LOTTERY’S COMMUNITY BUILDINGS FUND:
Tuesday 15, Thursday 17 & Wednesday 23 August 2006

On 24 April 2006 CAN wrote to all village hall secretaries (known to CAN) and parish councils in Northumberland to invite them to Information evenings in June 2006. There was a good response with applications being received for each of the planned events.

At that time it was anticipated by the BIG Lottery that the scheme would be launched in June and their staff would have full details of the scheme in time to allow them to inform those attending the planned June events. Regrettably the scheme launch was delayed and without knowledge of the full details the BIG Lottery staff were unable to proceed with the planned meetings.

Subsequently the BIG Lottery sent letters to all halls and parish councils apologising for the postponement of the events and an assurance that they would re-arrange for new dates as soon as they had a confirmed launch date.

CAN is happy to announce that the Community Buildings Fund was launched on 11 July 2006 (see http://www.biglotteryfund) and that new dates for the information events were agreed.

The re-organised 3 training / information events in August were led by staff from the BIG Lottery. In an effort to provide a date, venue and time to make the training accessible to most communities the 3 events were organised in the north, south and centre of the county with one in the morning, one in the evening and one in the afternoon and on different days in the week. Each event lasted up to 2 hours, with the exact length depending on the number of questions from those attending.

Dates, times and venues of the information sessions were:
Tuesday, 15 August 2006, 2.00pm, the Cheviot Centre, Wooler
Thursday 17 August 2006, 10.00am, Wylam Institute, Wylam
Wednesday 23 August 2006, 7.00pm, St James Hall, Morpeth

The cost per person was £2. In order to book applicants were asked to complete and return the attached booking slip*, retaining a copy for your information, as soon as possible. Ane event being over subscribed was limited to 2 per community building committee and applications were treated on a first come first served basis.

* Those halls who had already paid for one of the postponed June events still needed to complete the application form to confirm on which of the new dates they would be attending but notated the form “Already paid”. Halls who had already paid but couldn't attend on any of the re-organised dates were asked to let CAN know so that they could arrange repayments.
