PUBLICATIONS Community Action Northumberland publishes a regular bi-monthly newsletter since October 1981 - Community Action News
Printed in tabloid format it contains 4 pages of news and information relevant to relevant to parish councils, community groups and voluntary organisations in Northumberland. The paper is distributed free to Parish and District Councils, the County Council, village hall and Age Concern committees, the rural clergy and many voluntary organisations. Copies are also available to the public in the County libraries.
The first issue was edited by Alison Hooper and all the articles were contributed by Community Action staff. The stated intention was "At first the material will come mostly from the (then) Community Council itself and the various organisations that are associated with it. But other organisations with similar aims are invited to use it." And so it evolved with Alison and subsequent editors encouraging contributions from a wide spectrum of organisations and individuals in Northumberland.
Towards the end of 1982 Dr Rosemary Lumb, CCN's new Rural Officer took over as editor of Community News until her untimely death in May 1993. During her editorship the publication grew in stature and Rosemary revealed her investigative and writing skills, receiving numerous compliments for her articles from fellow professionals around the country.
Kate Duckham then took over as Editor followed later by Anne Lowrie. Since November 1997 Alan Hedley has been in the editor's seat continuing the policy of producing a balanced mix of articles to inform, educate and entertain the readership.
The editor welcomes contributions from community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, local authorities and individuals who may have items of interest and relevance to the communities of Northumberland. For details of publication dates and copy deadlines click here.
