Our AGM was held at Whalton Village Hall on Wednesday 7 November 2006, when Mrs Sue Richardson gave a short presentation covering the history and refurbishment of Whalton Village Hall to the 69 friends and colleague present, outlining ithe hall's links with the Community Council of Northumberland.  The official opening of the refurbished hall had been performed by Dame Margaret Barbour.  Mrs Richardson, on behalf of the trustees, acknowledged the Community Council’s very valuable support.

 

Calor Community Life Awards  -  The President introduced Chris O’Bee, of Calor, sponsors of the competition.  Mr O’Bee stressed the importance of rural communities and a new competition entitled “The Pub is the Hub” was being planned, aimed at building up such communities.  Allendale were the winners of the Community Life competition, and Felton village had been highly commended.

 

Chairman's Report  -  Included in his report for the year, Chairman, the Venerable Bob Langley put forward several proposals, including that of changing the name of the organisation from The Community Council of Northumberland to Community Action Northumberland, to take effect from 1 January 2007. 


Presentation - John Litherland-Chief Executive of the NSP thanked CCN for inviting him to give the presentation at the 2006 Annual General Meeting. 

 

The NSP was known as a funding organisation and it was important that it remain so.  John Litherland acknowledged the strong support he had received from CCN Chairman Bob Langley, (Chair of the NSP Board) and also the work carried out over the last few months, by David Francis, the CCN Trustees and Staff in return for NSP investment. 

 

His presentation covered the issues of the Northumberland Community Strategy, the LAA and Belonging Communities.

 

After a lively question and answer session, CCN Vice-President Sally Black gave the vote of thanks to the Speaker.
