General Advice

       Fundraising can be fun.

It often isn't. But it's not something you can ignore. People don't get involved in voluntary activity because they want to do fundraising and so, all too often, one or two people find themselves called "The Fundraising Committee" while the rest get on with the "real" work.  .........

Getting Started

   Step 1 -Your Proposal

Before you start to fundraise, you will have a need or a problem which you want to address, and you probably have ideas about how you intend to do this. This is your starting point and needs to be well thought through before you start looking for money.  ........

Planning a Fund Raising Strategy

A fundraising strategy sets out what a group's funding needs are likely to be, over a future period (say a year or three years) and outlines how the group intends to raise the money to meet those needs. ......

What makes a Good Application?

 There is no magic formula.

What you say will depend on who you are (household name? new group?), who they are (local funder?  miles away?  a body you’ve had support from before?  a specialist in the field?), how much you want (£50? £5 million?) and what you want the money for (obvious good cause? something totally innovative? revenue? capital?) But a good way of working out what to say is to put yourself in their shoes. ........

Appropriate donor
·        do their policies & practice (if you know them) match up with your appeal? (if not, why should they break their own rules?) .......

 Revenue Fundraising

The purpose of your fund raising efforts is to get the money you need to cover the costs of your activities. Most of your costs will probably be day to day running costs like rent, photocopying, telephone and perhaps wages : i.e. revenue costs . . . .
