CAN’s new face at Berwick.

The only male presence on our Community Development team is Marc Johnson, who is based in Berwick.

Over the last six and a half years Marc has been employed by Northumberland County Council in various roles within the field of transport. For the majority of this time he was the Rural Transport Partnership Officer in Berwick Borough and Alnwick District. This involved developing community transport projects with local groups. Marc’s most recent role has been as Travel Plan Co-ordinator, which involved working with schools to help them develop travel plans to encourage safer and more environmentally friendly ways of travelling to school.

Marc says “I was born and brought up in rural Northumberland, growing up in the village of Whittingham until I left home to go to University. I completed a degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Sunderland and got involved in a number of projects during this time as a volunteer and on placements. In my spare time I am a keen rugby player and captain Alnwick Rugby Club’s 3rd XV (injuries permitting).

I enjoy meeting up with people I used to work with in my previous roles as well as developing new working relationships.”

If you have an idea for a project in your community or group and would like to discuss project development and funding, please give Marc a ring on 01289 304141 or email him at marcjohnson@ca-north.org.uk
