Vision

CAN’s vision is of communities in Northumberland that are vibrant,  inclusive, confident, effective and capable of sustaining themselves.

Mission

Our mission is to support communities in Northumberland in realising the vision.

* Enabling local communities to shape their own future

* Ensuring that all sections of society have an opportunity to be involved in   decisions affecting their lives

* Giving special attention to those most disadvantaged, either as a result of material circumstances and/or through exclusion from the opportunities enjoyed by the wider population

* Responding flexibly to urgent matters raised by voluntary and community organisations

Roles

Our key roles as a support organisation to new and existing community and voluntary sector organisations in Northumberland are:

* Developing the capacity of local voluntary and community groups to identify unmet need and to work to meet this need by building up the skills base of individuals within these organisations

* Facilitating the development of new, and supporting existing networks of local voluntary and community groups, to enable them to be a mechanism for developing collaborative work across the sector

* Enabling the diverse views of the local voluntary and community sector to be voiced, and to be a conduit for them to be heard, within the decision making structures of other bodies, regionally and nationally.

CAN's Vision, Mission and Roles statements are included in the Business Plan 2006-2009 which spans our whole organisation and makes clearer our strategic and contingency planning process.
